Itinerary

Day 1 Tue: Arrive Darwin

On arrival in Darwin you will be transferred to your hotel. This afternoon join a city orientation tour of Darwin. Enjoy a welcome drink this evening.

Accommodation: Mirambeena Resort, Darwin, 2 nights.

Day 2 Wed: Litchfield National Park

We follow the Stuart Highway via the township of Batchelor to the tropical haven of Litchfield National Park. View beautiful Florence Falls and stop at Wangi Falls where there is the opportunity for a swim. Return to Darwin where the evening is at leisure. (B)

Day 3 Thu: Kakadu National Park

This morning we travel deep into Kakadu National Park. We stop at the Bowali Visitor Centre, before continuing on to Nourlangie Rock take a short walk to view ancient Aboriginal rock art. This afternoon we join a cruise on the famous Yellow Water Billabong.

Day 4 Fri: Nitmiluk National Park

Travel via the gold mining town of Pine Creek to Katherine. We stop at beautiful Edith Falls where these is time for a swim, before setting up camp in Nitmiluk National Park. Enjoy an afternoon cruise through spectacular Katherine Gorge.

Day 5 Sat: Kununurra

Depart Nitmiluk National Park and heading west we travel via Timber Creek and Victoria River. Crossing the border into Western Australia, we traverse large cattle stations to the township of Kununurra.

Day 6: Sun Kununurra

This morning we explore Mirima (Hidden Valley) National Park and admire the views from Kelly's Knob Lookout. Later, visit the historic Durack Homestead and enjoy a cruise on mighty Lake Argyle, Australia's largest man-made lake. (BD)

Day 7 Mon: Emma Gorge

We depart Kununurra and travel to Emma Gorge Resort. Here we take a guided walk into Emma Gorge. There is time to swim in the crystal clear water at the base of the waterfall, before continuing along the Gibb River Road to El Questro Wilderness Park.

Day 8 Tue: El Questro Wilderness Park

Today is free for you to explore El Questro Wilderness Park. Perhaps take an optional cruise through Chamberlain Gorge, a fresh waterhole abounded by tropical vegetation, and see Aboriginal rock art. Ask your Tour Director for details on the many optional activities that are available at the El Questro Station Township today. (BLD)

Day 9 Wed: Gibb River Road

Today we journey through some of the harshest terrain of the Kimberley. Departing El Questro Wilderness Park, we skirt the Cockburn Range and cross the King Leopold Range, then continue along the famous Gibb River Road, stopping at Manning Gorge (conditions permitting).

Day 10 Thu: Kimberley Gorges

This morning we take a walk into beautiful Galvans Gorge. Later, we inspect the unusual formation at Tunnel Creek (conditions permitting), before continuing on to spectacular Windjana Gorge.

Day 11 Fri: Broome

We leave the famous Gibb River Road today, stopping to see the Boab Prison Tree and Myall Bore. We then head south to Derby and visit the Circular Wharf, before continuing to Broome. See Chinatown, the Japanese Cemetery, Streeters Jetty and visit Ganthaeume Point for sweeping views of the Indian Ocean. This evening we watch a breathtaking sunset over Cable Beach.

Day 12 Sat: Broome at leisure

A free day for you to explore tropical Broome. This afternoon you may like to take a camel ride along Cable Beach at sunset. Ask your Tour Director for details. (B)

Day 13 Sun: Fitzroy Crossing

The distinct landscape of the northwest region of the Kimberley remains apparent today as we journey along the Northern Highway to the town of Fitzroy Crossing.

Day 14 Mon: Geikie Gorge

Enjoy a morning cruise through Geikie Gorge where the river flows beneath the towering limestone cliffs. We continue along the Northern Highway, traveling via Halls Creek to Old Halls Creek.

Day 15 Tue: Wolfe Creek Crater

This morning we travel along the Tanami Track to Wolfe Creek Meteorite Crater, the second largest crater in the world from which meteorite fragments have been collected. We cross into the Northern Territory.

Day 16 Wed: Tanami Track

Traverse the ever-changing scenery of the Tanami Desert. Pass Rabbit Flat, Australia's most remote outback roadhouse, The Granites and The Tanami mines, and continue on to Tilmouth Well.

Day 17 Thu: Depart Alice Springs

We travel to the end of the Tanami Tack this morning and on to Alice Springs. Enjoy panoramic views of Alice Springs from Anzac Hill, before you are transferred to Alice Springs Airport to connect with your onward flight. (B)
