Day 1: Alice Springs

You will be transferred to your hotel on arrival at the airport or railway station (arrival by 1pm, flight/train not included). This afternoon enjoy a tour of Alice Springs including the historic Telegraph Station, Royal Flying Doctor Service, School of the Air and the Alice Springs Reptile Centre. The final stop is Anzac Hill lookout. Accommodation: Crowne Plaza (AA50S), Alice Springs Resort (AA50F), Aurora Alice Springs (AA50R) or Alice Springs Plaza Hotel (AA50L), 2 nights.

Day 2: West MacDonnell Ranges – Alice Springs Desert Park

Travel to the spectacular West MacDonnell Ranges to Simpsons Gap. Stop at Angkerle (Standley Chasm) and walk along the stony watercourse between the sheer rock walls. Continue to Ellery Creek Big Hole, before arriving at Ormiston Gorge for a picnic lunch (opportunity for swimming in the hotter months). Travel to the Alice Springs Desert Park, where you will see unique Australian wildlife including the 'Birds of Prey' display. (L)

Day 3: Uluru (Ayers Rock) – Kata Tjuta (Olgas)

Travel through the West MacDonnell and James Ranges and stop at a camel farm for an optional camel ride (own expense). Later stop to view majestic Atila (Mt. Conner), before arriving at Ayers Rock Resort. This afternoon tour to Kata Tjuta and walk into Walpa Gorge. Travel to the Uluru sunset viewing area to watch sunset while enjoying nibbles and a glass of wine. Accommodation: Ayers Rock Resort – choice of accommodation.

On Day 3 there is the option to upgrade from the afternoon Kata Tjuta and Uluru Sunset Tour (Y13) to the Kata Tjuta Valley of the Winds Walk, Sunset and Barbecue Dinner Tour (Y14), at an extra cost. See page 21 for itinerary details.

Day 4: Uluru (Ayers Rock) – Alice Springs

This morning there is the option to do the Uluru Sunrise, Climb and Base Tour (Y18) or for the non-climbers, the Uluru Sunrise and Guided Cultural Base Walk (Y41). Both tours include a visit to Mutitjulu Waterhole and the Uluru – Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre. See page 19 for more itinerary details. Depart for Alice Springs this afternoon to arrive early evening. Accommodation: Crowne Plaza (AA50S), Alice Springs Resort (AA50F), Aurora Alice Springs (AA50R) or Alice Springs Plaza Hotel (AA50L), 2 nights.

Day 5: Palm Valley

Today's 4WD Safari travels to Hermannsburg, then down the bed of the Finke River, one of the oldest watercourses in the world, into Palm Valley. See spectacular rock formations and relic plants that are unique to Central Australia. On the return journey admire the magnificent West MacDonnell Ranges. (L)

Day 6: Aboriginal Cultural Experience

This morning spend time with a local Aboriginal guide as we travel to a site of significance to the Arrente people, on an Aboriginal Cultural Tour. See demonstrations of boomerang throwing and after morning tea learn about Aboriginal life, languages, art, dance and music. Touring concludes with a transfer to your hotel or to the airport. Flights must be booked to depart after 11.45am (flight not included in tour price).
