TERMS AND CONDITIONS


This document contains a summary of some of the Rental Conditions. For full detailed Conditions refer to the Conditions schedule in the Rental Agreement. Please note all prices quoted in this document are in Australian dollars. Rates and Conditions quoted in our brochures and/or documentation are subject to change without notice.

RENTAL DURATION

  • Rental days are calculated on a 24 hour basis.
  • Minimum rental period is 1 day for car rentals.
  • Minimum rental periods apply to one way rentals between cities. Refer to One Way Rentals section.
  • Minimum rental periods are subject to change during peak periods.
  • Early return of vehicle does not entitle the hirer to any refund of the unused portion of the rental.

The operator allows a grace period of 59 minutes before the hirer is liable for late return charges. Late return fees are applicable as follows:

1 hour late, one third of the daily rate will apply
2 hours late, two thirds of the daily rate will apply
3 hours late, one full day rate will apply

ONE-WAY RENTALS

One-way rentals are available between all branch locations, excluding Tasmania and the mainland.

Pick up or drop off into or out of the NT (Alice Springs, Ayers Rock Airport, Darwin) and into, out of or between WA locations (Perth, Broome) incurs a 10 day minimum rental period and a One way fee $500, payable at time of pick up. 

A locations matrix showing all locations and the relevant minimum days is attached. Please note that the listed cities includes both Airport and non-airport locations. Rentals between the city and airport locations in the same city do not attract one way rental fees or minimum day requirements.

AIRPORT CONCESSION FEE (PLS)

An airport concession fee will be charged for hires that pick-up from airport locations.  Vehicles picked up from non-airport locations can be returned to airport locations and no fee will be payable.

A complete list of airport concession fees, referred to as Premium Location Surcharge (PLS) is listed on the locations summary attached to these terms and conditions. Fees are set by airport operators and vary by airport and are subject to change at any time. 

FOR YOUR PROTECTION

Personal Injury is covered in most cases through Registration Third Party Insurance. We strongly recommend that all people travelling in Australia take out Personal Travel Insurance.
All vehicles are insured for any damage to the vehicle or to the property of a Third Party.  The hirer is responsible for the “the excess” being the first $2,000 of the cost of damage to Third Party property or to the rented vehicle, including single vehicle accident, windscreen and tyre damage and underbody damage, towing and recovery costs, theft, fire, break-in or vandalism.  This also includes the cost of the daily rental for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs (demurrage). The excess applies in respect of each claim, not rental.

The excess is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time the accident report is completed, or at the completion of the rental, whichever occurs first.  The excess will be refunded to the hirer if we are successful in recovering the cost.  This $2,000 excess can be reduced, in most circumstances, by the purchase of the Excess Reduction Option.

With Excess Reduction the hirer is responsible for the first $220 (2WD cars) of ANY ACCIDENT COST of damage to Third Party property or to the rented vehicle, including single vehicle accident, underbody damage, towing and recovery costs, theft, fire, break in or vandalism. This also includes the cost of the daily rental rate for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs (demurrage). The excess applies in respect of each claim, not rental.
Please see the ‘Exclusions’ section below, whereby all Excess Reduction cover will be made void.

All Excess Reduction Cover will be made void if any of the following list of ‘Exclusions’ are breached.

EXCLUSIONS:

Excess Reduction Option does not cover:
1. Any water related damage, which includes but is not limited to: 
a) any vehicle submersion
b) creek or river crossing
c) driving through low plain flooded areas 
d) beach driving

2. Personal belongings: we recommend the hirer does not leave valuables in the vehicle and that they take out personal insurance.

3. All Excess Reduction is void if the terms of the Rental Agreement are breached. The hirer will be responsible for the total cost of any damage.  This will also include any damage caused by willful misconduct (e.g. sitting or standing on the bonnet or roof of the vehicle) and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

4. The cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle which has become bogged, regardless of the Excess Reduction Package taken.

5. The cost to replace keys which have become lost, or retrieval of keys which have been locked in a vehicle.

VEHICLE SECURITY DEPOSIT

On pick up of the vehicle, a Vehicle Security Deposit is payable.  The amount is determined by the Protection Package selected (refer to the “FOR YOUR PROTECTION” section).  If you do not take Excess Reduction Option, the Security Deposit of $2,000 is payable by cash, travelers cheques or credit card.  If you pay by credit card, the Deposit  will be debited to your account immediately. If the deposit is paid by cash (including travelers cheques) a stringent cash qualification process will apply. The cash qualification process is not available to International residents. In the interests of expediency and convenience, the operator strongly recommends the use of a credit card  for the vehicle security deposit. Due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. The operator does not accept any liability for variances up or down. 

If Excess Reduction Option  has been taken the Security Deposit is $220 (2WD cars vehicles)  payable by cash, travelers cheques or credit card.  If you pay by credit card, an authority will be held against your account. If the deposit is paid by cash (including travelers cheques) a stringent cash qualification process will apply. The cash qualification process is not available to International residents In the interests of expediency and convenience, the operator strongly recommends the use of a credit card  for the security deposit.

The Security Deposit is fully refundable provided the vehicle is returned on time, to the nominated (or advised) location, undamaged, with a clean interior and with full fuel tank. Except where the customer has purchased Pre-Purchase Fuel Option (PFO), failure to return the vehicle with a full petrol tank will result in refill charges. Petrol refill charges will be advised upon return of the vehicle. 

We reserve the right to retain a $125 soiling fee if the vehicle is not returned with the interior in a clean condition.

While the operator  strongly recommends the use of credit cards for the purposes of deposits, cash as a method of payment to settle final accounts is acceptable without a qualification process.

INFRINGEMENTS

We reserve the right to charge the hirer for any speeding, parking or tollway fines, associated administration costs and/or accidents including third party property damage not reported on return of the vehicle. The administration fee per fine will be AU$60.

EXCHANGE RATE / CURRENCY VARIATIONS

All credit card transactions are conducted in Australian dollars. Due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. the operator does not accept any liability for variances up or down.

CREDIT CARDS

If a credit card is presented as payment, the credit card holder will be jointly and severally liable as a customer. Preferred credit cards are Visa Card and MasterCard.

LICENCE

A full resident country driver's licence, held for a least one year, is to be presented at the time of rental. If the license is not in an English format, an international drivers license is also required.  

AGE RESTRICTIONS

Drivers must be 21 years of age or over. A medical certificate stating that the customer is fit to drive the vehicle they have booked for the duration of the hire is required for drivers over the age of 75.

ROAD RESTRICTIONS

2 Wheel Drive vehicles must not be used by you or by any authorized driver (unless authorized by us in writing) on any unsealed road (being a road not sealed with a hard material such as tar, bitumen or concrete).  No vehicle may be used in off-road conditions.   Off road conditions include, but are not limited to: fire trails, beaches, sand, tracks, fields or paddocks. The only exception to this is reasonable use of access roads to recognised commercial campgrounds. 

The operator   reserves the right at its sole discretion to restrict vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions, and the distance to nominated destinations in relation to the length of the hire period.

ON-ROAD ASSISTANCE

Any problems associated with the vehicle, including equipment failure, must be reported as soon as possible, and within 24 hours in order to give the supplier the opportunity to rectify the problem during the rental. Failure to do so may compromise any claims for compensation.  We do not accept liability for any claims submitted after this period.

CHANGE OF VEHICLE

Should the vehicle booked be unavailable through unforeseen circumstances, the operator reserves the right to substitute an alternative vehicle without prior notification and at no extra cost.  This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the hirer to a refund.

RENTAL EXTENSIONS

If the hirer wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, they must first obtain authority from the destination branch. This is subject to availability and the daily rate for extensions may differ from the original booked rate.

VEHICLE CATEGORY

Vehicles cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle category.

VOLUNTARY DOWNGRADE

Should the hirer decide to take a lesser vehicle than booked they will not be entitled to any refunds.

TAXES

A charge of 2% of the total cost will be levied to cover state government taxes, duties and associated cost. This is payable upon collection of the vehicle.

IMPORTANT

The operator   reserves the right to refuse any rental at its discretion.

ANIMALS

No animals are permitted in our vehicles, excluding guide dogs.

PERSONAL AND COMPANY CHEQUES

Personal and Company cheques will not be accepted as payment for rentals at the time of pick-up. These must be paid to the operator 14 days prior to commencement of rentals. Personal or Company cheques are not acceptable as the refundable security deposit.

PLS – PREMIUM LOCATION SURCHARGE

These fees are payable for all rental vehicles collected at the listed locations at the time of pick up.  These fees are set by the relevant airport authority and are subject to change.
